Bungoma County Senator Wafula Wakoli has confirmed that the Senate, through its Finance Committee, has approved an increase in the county’s revenue share.
Wakoli explained that for the 2023-2024 year, Bungoma County initially received 11.111 billion shillings, instead of the proposed 10.952 billion. He now asserts that the county will receive the total allocation of 11.170 billion shillings.
Wakoli has urged the county government to use these funds responsibly, including paying salaries for county employees, settling debts with contractors, completing stalled development projects, addressing power shortages in certain areas, ensuring hospitals are stocked with medicine, and providing bursaries for underprivileged students.
However, he emphasized that the county government must be accountable in the management of these funds to ensure they directly benefit the residents.
The senator also expressed concern over the non-payment of salaries to county employees since July, urging Governor Kenneth Lusaka to take immediate action to ensure timely payment for these workers.
