Kenya welcomed Pope Leo XIV with open arms as he made a historic visit to Nairobi in December 2024, marking a significant moment for the Catholic faithful.
Previously known as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, Pope Leo XIV presided over the dedication of the new chapel of Our Mother of Good Counsel, an event that brought together thousands of worshippers, clergy, and government officials in celebration.
His visit came outside the Lenten season which traditionally begins in February or March, making it a unique occasion focused on spiritual renewal rather than the typical fasting and reflection period.

During the dedication ceremony, Pope Leo XIV emphasized the importance of faith, unity and compassion praising Kenyaโs vibrant Catholic community for their devotion.
The event underscored Kenyaโs status as a deeply spiritual nation enriched by its religious diversity and commitment to peace.The Popeโs visit reaffirmed the strong bond between Kenya and the Vatican,with religious leaders expressing gratitude for the pontiffโs blessings and his message of hope.
As the global Catholic community looks ahead, Kenya remains a beacon of faith and resilience proudly embracing its role in the Churchโs worldwide mission.
