
Rashid Mukoya Idi, a senior videographer at Standard Group PLC, has died following a brief illness. He passed away on Wednesday, December 25, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.According to sources within the media house, Mukoya collapsed at the company’s offices along Mombasa Road before being rushed to hospital.
His family later confirmed his death, though the exact cause remains unknown. It is unclear whether any underlying medical condition contributed to his sudden collapse.Mukoya joined Standard Group in 2013 and served in the editorial department, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s visual storytelling. Over the past decade, he was widely respected for his technical expertise and creative vision.In 2016, Mukoya received international recognition when he, alongside journalist Asha Mwilu, won the prestigious CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award. The accolade marked a high point in a career defined by dedication and excellence in broadcast journalism.

His death comes just two weeks after the passing of Festus Amimo, the Head of Radio Mayienga at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. Amimo, a beloved broadcaster known for hosting the morning show Gari Mokinyi on Mayienga FM, died suddenly after posting a tribute to a friend on social media.
Mayienga FM described Amimo’s death as a profound loss, remembering him as a passionate and committed professional. Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo joined other government officials and media colleagues in mourning, describing Amimo as a warm and humble individual whose presence left a lasting impact.The media fraternity continues to reel from the loss of two seasoned journalists whose contributions helped shape Kenya’s broadcast landscape.
