1st December ,also world AIDS day, Kenya joins the whole world in marking this day in Meru county ,with statistics indicating the nation ranked 6th globally on HIV related deaths by the year 2022.
From the statistics ,Meru county has a lot of cases on teen pregnancies and HIV infection among the youths, which according to a health expert in one of the hospitals in the region ,the headache of adolesent pregnancies in the county is real, as per their records in a span of January to June ,they received 264 mothers for antenatal care program ,out of which their were cases of age bracket 10-14 years ,1 in January, 2 in February and 4 cases in the month of June.
National Syndemic Disease Control Council CEO ,Ruth Masha established the region as of last year recorded 260,000 teen pregnancy cases which according to her may be caused by poverty and a culture of tolerating defilement injustices.
Additionally she added on how alarming the HIV infection rate of mother to child is high in this region.
Teen pregnancy challenge is included in the country’s tripple health campaign which also focuses on SGBV and ending AIDS by 2030 . Despite recording a drop of new infections from 100,000 cases of 2013 to 22,000 cases of 2022,Kenya still ranks high in HIV related deaths ,where about 113,000 patients disrupted treatment out of which 6% died.
