Following a statement released by LSK’s president elect Faith Odhiambo,where she faulted the Kenya Revenue Authority KRA over the collection of the housing levy, over what she tamed the collection as illegal.
LSK has threatened to go after KRA commissioner Humphrey Wattanga for what they said disregarding court orders over the housing levy deductions.
The outgoing president for LSk Eric Theuri has called on, all the employees whose monthly arrears have been deducted their monthly earnings to share their payslips which will help to facilitate the application seeking to refund the dedications.
This comes just a week after the attorney general Justin Muturi warning the Kenya Revenue Authority KRA against the collection of the controversial housing tax. Last year a three judges ruled that the entire program is illegal.
However the Senate is set to deliberate on the affordable housing bill this week, after it was approved by the national assembly which will set the stage for both salaried and non salaried to contribute 1.5 percent from their Income to facilitate the program.
In matters dealing with tax collections a section of members of Parliament from Kenya kwanza administration, who voted for the finance act 2023 are now urging residents not not to pay the new taxes on hot cultural crops including avocado. The members include Gatanga legislator Edward Muriu and his Kandara counterpart Chege Njuguna.
