During a church service in Bahati, Nairobi County, President Ruto addressed concerns regarding the eviction of citizens from the targeted land, assuring them that they will receive financial support to secure alternative accommodations while the construction proceeds.
President William Ruto emphasized that his government is dedicated to providing affordable housing for Kenyans living below the poverty line. He stated that the construction of housing units is set to commence on a large scale by the end of 2024.
In addition the president emphasized that no one will be evicted instead they will be given funds for 2 years for payment of rent till the completion of the houses
Senator Sifuna asserts that the capital city is undergoing an unavoidable expansion and necessitates the creation of additional space to accommodate a growing population of Kenyans The Housing Bill, previously adjudged unconstitutional by the courts on the grounds of lacking a legal framework, has elicited significant contention among Kenyan citizens.
Despite this opposition, the bill has now been enacted subsequent to receiving assent from President Ruto. As per the newly enacted legislation, both salaried and non salaried individuals in Kenya will be mandated to remit 1.5% of their monthly earnings towards the Housing Levy.
