Members of Parliament from western region want KRA to suspend the recent introduced sugarcane tax which will be collected electronically, the lawmakers were speaking during a church service at Bulimbo Catholic church in Matungu constituency.
The implementation of sugar cane tax requires farmers to present their tax invoice during delivery to the cane millers saying this will be a burden to the local sugar cane farmers.
Kakamega deputy governor Ayub Savula dismissed the lamentations from legislators accusing them of voting for the financial act 2023, that is now pressing sugarcane farmers in Western region.
His statement was echoed by kakamega governor Farnandes Baraza who asked the lawmakers to do more amendments to the financial act 2023.
Speaker of the national assembly Moses wetangula said he will engage president William Ruto over the matter,to look for alternative way to famers.
On the issue of elusive luhya unity, also took centre becoming a subject of discussion during the event as they called on each other to put their differences aside and unite the mulembe region.
Leaders who accompanied speaker of the national assembly Moses wetangula promised to rally behind wetangula in a bid to unite the community and champion it’s interests at the national level.
