According to an advice by the SRC advice on the chief administrative secretaries salary whom are set to take home a gross salary of ksh 780,000 if appointed by the president in addition the salary of the chief administrative secretaries will be slightly higher than the members of parliament which they pocket every month
This decision has sparked debates among lawmakers and the public regarding the potential impact of increasing the number of CASs on the government’s efficiency and accountability.
Some argue that having more CASs will allow for better delegation of responsibilities and more effective implementation of government policies. Others express concerns about the potential for increased bureaucracy and lack of oversight with a larger number of CASs
The salaries include; a basic salary of ksh 459,113, house allowance of ksh165,000 and salary market adjustment of ksh 155,887
The remuneration also includes an attractive annual medical cover that includes Ksh.10 million for inpatients, Ksh.300,000 for outpatient, maternity Ksh150,000 dental Ksh.75,000 and optical Ksh 75,000

The approval of the appointment of CASs has brought attention to other pending bills, such as the proposed amendments to the Public Finance Management Act and the Political Parties Act. These bills are seen as crucial for improving transparency and accountability in government spending and enhancing the functioning of political parties in the country
Last week, the National Assembly passed a bill that legalizes the appointment of Chief Administrative Secretaries(CASs), amid ongoing national dialogue on the large amounts of pending bills in the government. Previously, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee had put a limit of 22 CASs, but this has been changed to give the President the freedom to appoint any number of CASs
