The tragic accident on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway has left a devastating impact on the community, with two individuals losing their lives and eight others suffering injuries. The incident, which occurred on Monday, May 27, involved a 14-seater matatu, a Probox, and a trailer.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred when the trailer swerved to avoid a collision with a Probox that was overtaking from the wrong lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the matatu from Nanaki Sacco. The injured victims were immediately rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the police initiated their investigations into the crash.
Local residents, who were deeply saddened by the increasing number of accidents in the area, called upon drivers to exercise extra caution on the roads. Disturbing photos from the accident scene depicted the extensive damage inflicted upon the matatu, highlighting the severity of the collision.
This unfortunate incident comes just days after another tragic crash in the Migaa area along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway, where five individuals lost their lives. On Saturday, May 25, a 14-seater matatu collided with a truck, resulting in the deaths of four women and one man.
Eight individuals with severe injuries were swiftly transported to Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the county funeral home, awaiting proper identification. These back-to-back accidents have left the community in shock and mourning, emphasizing the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
Authorities and local residents are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and increased awareness campaigns to educate drivers about the importance of responsible driving. The loss of lives and the injuries sustained in these accidents serve as a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from reckless driving and negligence on the roads.
