This stadium, located in Bungoma, is set to be upgraded to international standards following the national celebrations this year. The work is progressing with a renewed focus on meeting global expectations for sports facilities.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba noted that certain upgrades, including the installation of an appropriate grass playing surface and an efficient irrigation system, could not be completed before the Madaraka Day event. While efforts were made to speed up some aspects of the project for the celebrations, the stadium remains an active construction site. Work is slated to continue without pause after June 1st.
President William Ruto has assured the residents of Bungoma County that Masinde Muliro Stadium, located in Kanduyi Constituency, will be handed over to the County Government upon its completion. He emphasized the importance of these contractors staying on site until the project is finished. Additionally, the President stressed that the stadium’s facilities should be monetized, ensuring that users pay for access.
During a prayer and thanksgiving service in Kimilili Constituency, President Ruto reiterated his commitment to completing the stadium’s construction and ensuring it serves the local community effectively. He highlighted the necessity of proper management and maintenance once the facility is handed over to local authorities.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba announced that the stadium would be completed within six months. This timeline aims to deliver a fully functional and modern sports facility, enhancing the region’s infrastructure significantly.
Namwamba outlined that the upgraded stadium would feature floodlights, permanent seating, a seamless Teflon canopy, and a standard pitch. These improvements are part of a larger effort to align the stadium with international standards, making it a premier venue for sports and events.
The development of Masinde Muliro Stadium is a critical component of the Sports and Creatives Infrastructure Masterplan being implemented nationwide. This plan aims to systematically enhance sports facilities across the country, providing robust support for the sports and creative sectors.
In just three months, significant progress has been made, transforming the previously abandoned construction site into a venue suitable for national day celebrations. This rapid development underscores the commitment of the ministry to revitalizing the infrastructure for sports and creatives.
The upgrade of Masinde Muliro Stadium reflects broader efforts by the ministry to address the long-standing neglect of sports and creative sectors. By investing in high-quality facilities, the government aims to foster growth and engagement in these important areas.
Overall, the construction and subsequent completion of Masinde Muliro National Stadium mark a significant milestone in Bungoma County’s development. It not only promises to elevate local sports but also to serve as a beacon of progress and investment in community infrastructure.
