The second batch of the proposed names of cabinet secretaries were announced by president William Ruto at the State House Nairobi, Ruto in his cabinet has included ODM party leaders, he has also retained the names of those who were dismissed due to pressure, from the youths who were protesting demanding for a change in the entire cabinet.
ODM party chair John Mbadi has been appointment to be the new cabinet secretary for Finance, only after being approved by the Parliament, previously the docket was under professor Njuguna Ndung’u.
Both ODM deputy party leaders have been appointment in different ministries, Former Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho appointed as the cabinet secretary of mining and blue economy,a docket taht was under Salim Mvurya,Wycliffe Oparanya former kakamega governor appointed as the cabinet secretary for cooperatives and small businesses.Unguja member of Parliament who is also Minority leader in the national assembly Opiyo Wandayi was appointed to be the cabinet secretary for energy and petroleum,a docket that was under Davis chirchir.
Those who were reinstated are Salim Mvurya who has been assigned to the ministry of Industry and trade, Rebecca Miano has been directed to serve in the docket of tourism,she was previously recommended by the head of state to serve as the attorney general, but her name was missing in the list read in parliament.there were allegations that Miano asked president William Ruto, to award her lighter duties, apart from that of attorney general.
Former transport cabinet secretary Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen,has been reinstated to serve in the ministry of sports that was under Ababu Namwamba,while Alfred Mutua being appointed to serve in the docket of labour,he previously served as the cabinet secretary of tourism and wildlife. Stella Soi Lang’at has been appointed to serve in the ministry of gender and culture.
Those appointed by the president are waiting for the approval from the national assembly,a move that has raised speculation among Kenyans and section of leaders for return of the previous cabinet secretary and those from the opposition side.
