Factions within the Azimio la Umoja coalition are increasingly threatening to cut ties with the alliance that endorsed opposition leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in 2022.
This comes after some opposition leaders accused the ODM party of betrayal, following its decision to collaborate with President William Ruto’s administration.
The leaders spoke in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, where they expressed their willingness to lead the opposition and continue holding the government accountable over the rising cost of living and heavy taxation on ordinary Kenyans.
The divisions within Azimio la Umoja were further deepened in July when NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua announced her withdrawal from the coalition, after several ODM members joined the government as ministers.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has also shown interest in forming a new political alliance
