In a bold move to demand accountability and justice, doctors and civil servants in Kenya are gearing up to hit the streets in protest next Tuesday. Led by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and the Union of Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS), these professionals are not backing down until their voices are heard.
The heart of the matter lies in the discrepancies and omissions affecting their sectors within the Social Health Authority (SHA). KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah and UKCS counterpart Tom Odege have made it clear in a joint letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja that they mean business. The protest will kick off at 8am at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) before making its way to SHA buildings, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Public Service, and finally, the National Treasury.

The message is loud and clear: it’s time for accountability and justice for all public officers. The professionals are demanding that the deducted funds be put to good use, ensuring that civil servants and public officers receive the medical coverage they are entitled to.

Calling on all police officers and teachers to join them in solidarity, the protesters are ready to abide by all regulations and guidelines set forth by the authorities. This is a peaceful demonstration with a powerful message โ it’s time to stand up for what is right and just. Let’s support these professionals as they fight for a better future for all.
