The government has officially launched a mobile ID registration drive targeting one million youth, and guess what? The Ksh.300 application fee has been removed! Cue the applause!

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen unveiled this nationwide campaign in Nakuru, aiming to streamline the identification process by going fully digital. Say goodbye to those pesky vetting committees that made you jump through hoops just to get your ID. The government is making it easier for you by bringing mobile units to sub-counties and local levels for maximum accessibility.

And the best part? IDs will now be issued within 10 days, not the agonizing year-long wait we were accustomed to. Thank you, CS Murkomen, for hearing our cries of frustration!

But wait, there’s more! The government is rolling out a fully digital ID registration system with live enrollment kits in all sub-counties. No more uncertainty or long waiting times – a post-issuance ID tracking system will keep you updated via SMS alerts and online platforms.

And the cherry on top? Plans for a National Digital Identity Management System are in the works, introducing virtual IDs and digital wallets. You’ll soon be able to securely store and access your identification documents on your smartphone, making life a whole lot easier when dealing with government services and financial institutions.

Oh, and did I mention that the Ksh.500 charge for birth certificate verification has been waived? Yep, the government is taking care of that for you now. It’s all about making the authentication of personal documents a free service – as it should be!

ID registration services will soon be expanded to the diaspora through partnerships with the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
