

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has confirmed the disappearance of a Kenyan police officer in Haiti.The officer went missing seven days ago during a raid by Haitian gangs on Kenyan police officers in the Lower Artibonite region, just north of Port-au-Prince.
Despite ongoing search efforts, there are rumours circulating that the missing officer may have tragically passed away. Kanja assured the press that every possible measure is being taken to locate and bring back the officer to his family.The incident unfolded when Kenyan police officers found themselves in a perilous situation after their vehicles got stuck in a ditch, suspected to have been intentionally dug by the gangs.

In a bid to assist, Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles were dispatched from central Haiti to aid in the recovery process.However, chaos ensued when the gang members launched a vicious attack on the Kenyan officers, resulting in the disappearance of one officer. Speculation suggests that he may be in the hands of the dangerous gangs, prompting specialised search teams to be deployed to locate him.
While conflicting reports have emerged regarding the officer’s fate, the Presidential Transitional Council of Haiti confirmed that the officer, identified as Benedict Kabiru, was shot dead during the operation. The Haitian government hailed him as a valiant officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.The tragic turn of events has left the officer’s family in anguish, demanding clarity from the authorities about the whereabouts of their loved one.
