The political drama in Machakos County Assembly has reached a boiling point, with nine Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) facing suspension and a hefty bill for property damages after a chaotic incident that left the Speaker under siege for hours.
Speaker Anne Kiusya didn’t hold back in her scathing remarks, calling the events of April 8, 2025, shocking, shameful, and atrocious, and vowing that such acts of gross misconduct cannot go unpunished. The nine suspended legislators, including the likes of Nicholas Kitavi Nzioka and Stephen Nzue Mwanthi, have been slapped with an eight-day suspension and directed to foot the bill for damages caused to Assembly property during the mayhem.
The evidence gathered by the House paints a grim picture of broken chairs, tables, doors, and even security systems, all pointing to the anarchy unleashed by the perpetrators. The suspension comes after months of chaos in the Machakos Assembly, where deep political rifts have paralyzed proceedings, leading to a three-month hiatus in full sittings.

The Speaker had previously suspended sessions in April following similar chaos that left three MCAs injured. The root of the discord seems to stem from accusations hurled at Speaker Kiusya, with some MCAs claiming she was sneaking in motions, mishandling office funds, and failing to complete projects initiated by her predecessor. On the flip side, Kiusya’s allies are pointing fingers at Governor Wavinya Ndeti, alleging a plot to oust the Speaker.
The latest bout of trouble erupted when the Speaker announced leadership changes within the House, triggering a wave of outrage from MCAs aligned with the previous leadership. The ensuing chaos saw objects being hurled and the Speaker reportedly barricaded inside her office for over nine hours.
The Machakos County Assembly is certainly no stranger to drama, and with the current suspension and property damage debacle, it seems like the political landscape is only getting more tumultuous.
