Students and other stakeholders, including coaches and fans, participating in the Term Two Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSA) Games for the Bungoma County Chapter have been urged to uphold a high standard of discipline throughout the sporting events taking place at the Bungoma Boys High School grounds and other nearby institutions.
During the official opening ceremony of the KSSA Games, the County Director of Education, Mr. Pius Ng’oma, emphasized that the games are strictly for eligible students, warning that any form of hooliganism or interference would not be tolerated.
He stated that offenders would be dealt with in accordance with Kenyan law.Mr. Ng’oma highlighted that over the years, Bungoma County has excelled in producing top teams at regional, national, and even East African competitions. He expressed hope that this year would continue this tradition of excellence. “I call upon all referees to be vigilant and fair during these games,” he said, noting that Bungoma may have the opportunity to host either the opening or closing ceremony for the national competitions due to the county’s strong performances.

The Bungoma County KUPPET Branch Executive Secretary, Mr. Augustine Kundu Luketelo, reiterated that coaches must field only students in their teams to prevent penalties against the Chief Principals or potential bans from the Disciplinary Tribunal under the Ministry of Education. He also revealed that referees and officials would receive an allowance of Kshs 3,000 per day, urging them to remain above reproach and avoid match-fixing scandals that plagued previous games.
Mr. Luketelo used the occasion to rally support from teachers within KUPPET as he prepares to defend his Executive Secretary General seat in the upcoming 2026 elections. He was joined by the Bungoma County KUPPET Chairman, Mr. David Barasa, and Mr. Toili Khisa, Principal of Bungoma Boys High School, who both stressed the importance of students avoiding drugs and substance abuse.
They warned that any individuals caught selling drugs to students would face arrest and prosecution.The Bungoma County KSSA Chairperson, Mrs. Florence Mukangula, announced that two teams each in boys’ soccer and girls’ football, along with four teams in rugby and other games like volleyball and netball, will qualify to represent the county in the Western Regionals Competitions.
In the opening match, the Brenda Girls Football Team from Webuye West defeated Marobo Girls from Bungoma Central Sub-County, sealing a 2-0 victory.The launch of the games also saw the presence of the Bungoma County KESSHA Chairman, Mr. Edward Bikala, Bokoli ward MCA Hon. Jack Kawa, and Mukuyuni ward counterpart Hon. Meshack Museveni, among other education sector stakeholders.The Bungoma County KSSA Games are scheduled to conclude on June 14, 2025.
