đź”´Trump Pledges ‘Very Serious Retaliation’ After Deadly ISIS Attack in Syria.
President Donald Trump has vowed a forceful response following the deaths of two U.S. Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter in Syria, an attack the Pentagon has attributed to the Islamic State (ISIS).The incident occurred Saturday during what military officials described as a “key leader engagement” near the historic city of Palmyra.
According to U.S. Central Command, the American personnel were part of a joint patrol with Syrian forces when they were ambushed by a lone gunman believed to be affiliated with ISIS. Three additional U.S. service members were wounded in the attack. In a statement posted to Truth Social, President Trump condemned the assault as “an ISIS attack against the U.S. and Syria,” and warned that “there will be very serious retaliation.”
He added that the U.S. remains committed to eradicating terrorist threats in the region and supporting its allies.“This was a cowardly and calculated act of terror,” Trump said. “We will respond with strength and resolve. Those responsible will pay a heavy price.”The Pentagon confirmed that the attack is under investigation and that the identities of the fallen Americans are being withheld pending notification of their families. The interpreter, a U.S. civilian contractor, was embedded with the military team to assist in communications during the engagement.

The Syrian government, led by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, also condemned the attack. Al-Sharaa, who assumed power after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad, expressed solidarity with the U.S. and pledged continued cooperation in counterterrorism operations. The deaths mark one of the deadliest incidents involving U.S. forces in Syria in recent months and come amid renewed efforts by Washington and Damascus to stabilize the region and dismantle remaining ISIS cells.
Defense analysts say the attack underscores the persistent threat posed by ISIS despite territorial losses in recent years. “This is a stark reminder that ISIS remains a lethal force capable of striking high-value targets,” said retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling. The White House has not yet disclosed the nature or timeline of the planned retaliation, but officials suggest that military options are being actively considered.
