Former Likuyani Member of Parliament Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy has died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Eldoret. He passed away early Tuesday morning, according to family sources.Dr. Kibunguchy, a seasoned politician and medical doctor by profession, previously served as the MP for Lugari before the constituency was split to create Likuyani.
He was known for his commitment to public service and had expressed interest in contesting the Likuyani parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.His cousin, Justus Wekesa, confirmed the death, while his nephew, Kelly Walubengo, revealed that the former legislator had been admitted to hospital last week with severe stomach complications. Walubengo stated that the family suspects food poisoning may have contributed to his deteriorating condition.“We noticed his health was worsening rapidly, and we suspect something may have been in his food,” Walubengo said during a press briefing in Eldoret, where he was joined by other family members.
He added that the family is awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination and further investigations to determine the exact cause of death.The circumstances surrounding Kibunguchy’s death have prompted calls for a thorough probe.Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa mourned the former MP, describing his death as a significant loss to the Likuyani community.“Dr. Kibunguchy was a visionary leader who had plans to return to active politics and uplift the lives of his constituents,” Wamalwa said.The Ministry of Health and relevant authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of death.
Dr. Kibunguchy’s passing marks the end of a notable political career that spanned decades, during which he served in various capacities and remained a respected figure in Western Kenya’s political landscape. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
