Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The legislator revealed on Tuesday, January 20, that he was intercepted by officers and taken to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road before later being transferred to Muthaiga Police Station. He did not immediately disclose the reason for his arrest. Sources indicate that Kibagendi is being pursued in connection with an assault incident captured on CCTV in December 2025. The footage, which went viral, showed a man believed to be the MP confronting and physically attacking another individual at a food establishment in broad daylight.
The scuffle drew the intervention of bystanders, though the assailant appeared agitated and even turned on one of those attempting to separate the two men. The victim later alleged that the MP confronted him over claims of interference in private matters. Following the incident, a 38-year-old man filed an assault complaint against Kibagendi on November 27, prompting detectives to seek his cooperation in the investigation. In December, security officials in Kisii confirmed that the lawmaker had been advised to voluntarily present himself to authorities to expedite the inquiry.

His legal team criticized the pace of the investigation, arguing that the matter was already documented on video.Kibagendi subsequently secured anticipatory bail of Ksh50,000 granted by Lady Justice Teresa Achieng’ Odera. He is expected to be transported back to Kisii on Wednesday, January 21, where he will be arraigned and may be required to take a plea.
