{"id":1131,"date":"2023-10-27T09:34:10","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T09:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/?p=1131"},"modified":"2023-10-27T09:34:10","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T09:34:10","slug":"kenya-is-anticipating-an-increase-in-tomato-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/index.php\/2023\/10\/27\/kenya-is-anticipating-an-increase-in-tomato-production\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya is Anticipating an Increase in Tomato Production."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Kelvin Kimtai<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Kenya is striving to put more efforts to improve on food security.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-95-1.png\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"object-fit:cover;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-95-1.png 900w, https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-95-1-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-95-1-768x427.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Technology has come to an aid where by production and paste control has been capitalized by the inventions of new technological mechanisms which is a hope to increase yields<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kenya is anticipating an increase in tomato production from 10 tons per acre to 60 tons per acre from the release of new varieties technology and biological paste control measures through a 5 year project to enhance tomato production funded by Korean government Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organizations in collaboration with 10 other African countries have produced 300 other varieties of tomato to achieve this target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This smart greenhouse demonstrates the capability of application of internet of things in tomato farming to increase yields and reduce post-harvest loses this type of farming gives farmers a detailed information about the development of stages of the crop, weather changes paste information via short mobile services.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-96-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1134\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.499267935578331;width:327px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The smart greenhouse is part of KALRO\u2019s efforts to increase tomato production in Kenya under a 240 million shillings. Korea Africa Food and Agriculture Initiative through the project Kenya is seeking reduce losses estimated at 59%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project has realized the development in tomato seed varieties that are new expected to be released to farmers after conclusion of various approvals<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kelvin Kimtai As Kenya is striving to put more efforts to improve on food security.
