{"id":1659,"date":"2023-11-30T07:06:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T07:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/?p=1659"},"modified":"2023-11-30T07:06:02","modified_gmt":"2023-11-30T07:06:02","slug":"homes-in-kakamega-demolished-for-affordable-housing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/index.php\/2023\/11\/30\/homes-in-kakamega-demolished-for-affordable-housing\/","title":{"rendered":"Homes in Kakamega demolished for affordable housing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President William Ruto commissioned the project, purposed for the Milimani area, during his last visit to the region in September.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-96.png\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"object-fit:cover;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-96.png 700w, https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-96-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>The demolition kicked off on Tuesday morning in thenearby suburb which is next to Kakamega State Lodge leaving behind a trail of destruction estimated at millions of shillings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also affected is the palatial home of Tejveer Singh Rai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far more than 14 property have been destroyed in the up-market area including those belonging to several prominent people including Former Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are unconfirmed reports that the residents were served with a seven-day eviction notice dated September 6, which instructed them to move out of the land whose lease is alleged to have expired. However, the owners of the properties claimed they were never served with any notice to vacate their premises. As some also claiming that they were given the land by the late president Moi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LSK Kakamega Chapter chairperson Maureen Odeke accused the Western regional commissioner of defying a court order that was instituted to stop the demolitions as the act is unlawful and infringing the rights if the residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-97.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1661\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-97.png 700w, https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-97-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had asked the Regional Commissioner to stop the interference with properties in Milimani Estate in Kakamega and halt demolitions after he asked property owners for documents about their properties.
