{"id":2036,"date":"2024-02-03T09:44:54","date_gmt":"2024-02-03T09:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/?p=2036"},"modified":"2024-02-03T09:44:56","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T09:44:56","slug":"housing-levy-fury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/index.php\/2024\/02\/03\/housing-levy-fury\/","title":{"rendered":"HOUSING LEVY FURY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Elizabeth Kisiangani<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula\u00a0filed\u00a0a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court seeking to challenge the decision of the Government from continuing to collect the housing levy.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"524\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-5.png\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"object-fit:cover;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-5.png 750w, https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-5-300x210.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Following a Court ruling&nbsp;that termed the housing levy unconstitutional and the court of appeal decision, lifting the stake order now preventing the Government to collect the levy, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education and Teachers KUPPET is now calling for a refund of what was contributed by there members including the remittance&nbsp;of the levy for the month of January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is even as labourers in the construction industry protested at Milimani Law Courts against the decision by the Court to stop the levies they claim the Court&#8217;s decision has led to some of them being laid off as constructors pull back on the projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not withstanding the High Court decision by 3 Judgement found the housing levy at fault ,not the housing project as it is being alleged.
