{"id":221,"date":"2023-07-17T16:06:34","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T16:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/?p=221"},"modified":"2023-07-17T16:06:34","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T16:06:34","slug":"high-court-declines-to-stop-azimios-demos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/index.php\/2023\/07\/17\/high-court-declines-to-stop-azimios-demos\/","title":{"rendered":"HIGH COURT DECLINES TO STOP AZIMIO&#8217;s DEMO&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The High Court of Kenya on Monday declined to stop the scheduled three-day Azimio led demonstrations when it pushed the mention of the case to a date after the protests.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/unnamed-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"object-fit:cover;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/unnamed-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/unnamed-1-300x202.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>In his ruling, High Court judge Justice Lawrence Mugambi directed that the application and petition be filed in the next three days and responses within ten days and set the hearing date for July 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case was filed by a litigant Martin Gitau against Azimio leader Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gitau sought court orders to compel Raila Odinga, Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio La Umoja Coalition to compensate individuals and the public for any losses arising from demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martin Gitau also wants the court to declare that the two leaders and the ODM party bear responsibility for the loss and damage that occurred during the protests last week, including the lives lost, injuries suffered and property destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/images-49-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-319\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo the extent that the Respondents have orchestrated protests that have resulted in the loss of lives of innocent members of the public and law enforcement officers, the Respondents have violated Articles 26 and 29 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010,\u201d Gitau says in the petition before the High Court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The High Court of Kenya on Monday declined to stop the scheduled three-day Azimio led demonstrations when it<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":222,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[6,7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-221","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-politics"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.11 -
