{"id":2308,"date":"2024-03-05T08:42:23","date_gmt":"2024-03-05T08:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/?p=2308"},"modified":"2024-03-05T08:42:26","modified_gmt":"2024-03-05T08:42:26","slug":"abandoning-pastrolism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/index.php\/2024\/03\/05\/abandoning-pastrolism\/","title":{"rendered":"ABANDONING PASTROLISM"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Purity Nelima<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an effort to end poverty\u00a0and the long lasting insecurity in the Kio valley belt,\u00a0residents for over 14000 farmers\u00a0in Turkana county are gradually altering\u00a0their way of life by giving up raising livestock and converting this dry land into a factor of production.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"562\" src=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-16.png\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"object-fit:cover;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-16.png 750w, https:\/\/tandaomedia.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-16-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>11000 farmers are receiving\u00a0assistance from the National Irrigation\u00a0Authority hence benefiting\u00a0from the Locu irrigation scheme, which is situated on 2560 acres of land some of the crops here include green gram, maize, sorghum and watermelon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another\u00a0irrigation\u00a0system\u00a0is Katilu irrigation scheme which\u00a0serves 3000 farmers using water from river\u00a0Turkwel.
