Three months since the year began this has\u00a0been the situation on the\u00a0roads, traveling from one destination to\u00a0the other has turned out to be a\u00a0nightmare for\u00a0many.<\/p>\n\n\n

Road accidents across the country\u00a0have claimed over 1,000 lives between first\u00a0January and first April this year, according\u00a0to the data from the National Transport\u00a0and Safety\u00a0Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statistics are an increase\u00a0compared to last year, with a record of a\u00a0thousand more Kenyans being injured on\u00a0the roads, including passengers and\u00a0pedestrians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on April 4,\u00a0Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport and Public Works in Kenya, Kipchumba Murkomen\u00a0said recklessness in terms of driving and failure to maintain vehicles were the leading causes of accidents in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd the only way ,it is not enough to have police and the NTSA on the road doing Crackdown , it’s important to apply and deploy Technologies for instant finding, the good news is that in the PPP department is working on almost done with procurement for an investor, who will come with a PPP model ,we will put speed cameras on the road and you will be getting your fines on your phone directly, directly you will find you what is called instant fining, that way I believe in the fullness of time we will reduce Road accidents, this accidents, and if you look at it a lot of it is about recklessness in terms of driving and failure to maintain Vehicles\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disturbed by the trend now slowly turning into a normalcy, NTSA, the National Police Service and the Matatu Owners Association, have begun a sport check across the country targeting drivers operating with expired licenses and insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision to intensify compliance checks comes as part of a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of Road accidents and enhance Road Safety standards Nationwide<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March, different road accidents hit the headlines, with the main one that got many shocked involving a Kenyatta University bus that collided with a trailer, claiming the lives of 11 students<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Last week 33 students were involved in an accident with one dying on the spot, the same week another accident occurred at Salama  area leaving 11 people dead,  a family lost six members from the accident .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
