The new program is set to deploy 5,000 electric motorcycles in the upcoming three years. Bolt states that this deployment is consistent with the recent unveiling of Kenya’s National E-mobility Policy, which is designed to support local production and assembly of EVs.<\/p>\n\n\n

Under this agreement, boda boda riders will be required to contribute between Ksh.10,000 and Ksh.15,000 towards the purchase of the e-motorcycles, which are valued at over Ksh.200,000. The remaining cost will be covered by M-Kopa<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the boda boda riders will get the equivalent low rate they will need to pay an average\u00a0of 480 ksh and 600 ksh based on the brand within 2 years. Some of the benefits of electric vehicles and motorbikes include cutting down the cost, easy to operate, being energy efficient, less noisy, and environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n

Bolt, the ride-hailing platform, is making a significant effort to encourage boda boda riders to use electric-powered motorcycles. To promote the adoption of these environmentally friendly vehicles, Bolt is offering a payment of Ksh.50,000, which covers 20 percent of the purchase price, to boda boda riders who choose to switch to electric motorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This move by Bolt comes at a time when there is a growing concern about the environmental impact of traditional motorcycles, which are typically powered by fossil fuels. Electric motorcycles offer a cleaner and more sustainable alternative, as they produce zero emissions and have lower operating costs. In addition to the financial incentives, Bolt is also providing training and support to boda boda riders who make the switch to electric motorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes training on how to operate and maintain the vehicles, as well as access to charging infrastructure. By encouraging boda boda riders to embrace electric-powered motorcycles, Bolt is not only contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions but also promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
