The recent bans on the use of the stimulant in Mombasa and Kilifi counties, as well as the implementation of strict taxes on ‘muguka’ traders in Kwale, have sparked discussions on the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the new regulations, single business permits will see a significant increase from Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 50,000. Additionally, offloading levies are expected to rise by over 100%, with levies for pickup increasing from 10,000 to 80,000, probox from 10,000 to 60,000, Canter from 15,000 to 100,000, and lorries weighing over 15 tonnes to cost Ksh 300,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traders involved in the ‘Muguka’ business have expressed their concerns about the heightened levies that will be imposed on the stimulant. They argue that implementing strict taxes is futile and would prefer a complete ban instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
