Sugarcane farmers from the nyanza sugar belt have welcomed the change in the pricing formula for sugarcane, lauding the proposed regulation for farmers to earn based on the sucrose content.<\/p>\n\n\n

Speaking at a public participation forum organized by the agriculture and food authority in Kisumu, the farmers said that the system will not only enhance their returns from sugarcane farming, but will also streamline issues around sugarcane research, and enable them at the use of more efficient varieties of cane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representatives from AFA indicated that a total of 11 testing units have been installed in various factories, pending the transition under the draft crops regulation of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AFA is looking to streamline payment of sugarcane farmers based on the quality of cane delivered, as part of the conditions issued by comma, pending the expiry of the sugar importation safeguard in February 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
