In a world where social media has become a powerful tool for communication and connection, National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General, Noordin Haji, has once again raised concerns about the misuse of these platforms.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the Mashariki Cooperation Conference in Naivasha, Nakuru County, Haji highlighted the potential threat that social media misuse poses to national and regional security.Haji emphasized that the rise of misinformation and incitement of violence on social media could destabilize the country and lead to unrest.While acknowledging that free speech is essential for democracy, he stressed the importance of finding a balance between free speech and national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the conference, high-profile security officials from across the continent gathered to discuss emerging security threats and strategies for intelligence sharing. Haji pointed out that the misuse of social media for advocacy and mobilization has led to coordinated misinformation and disinformation campaigns aimed at manipulating citizens and shaping their perceptions of governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen echoed Haji’s concerns, cautioning the youth against spreading hate and inflammatory narratives on social media.
