KANU Supporters Protest Moi’s Withdrawal from Baringo Senate Race.<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporters of KANU party leader Gideon Moi held protests following his unexpected withdrawal from the Baringo senatorial race. The decision sparked outrage among his followers, especially after Moi failed to attend a planned political rally in Kabarnet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, his supporters had gathered in anticipation of escorting him to the IEBC offices in Baringo to formally submit his nomination papers. Some of the demonstrators accused the government of interfering in the local electoral process, claiming their democratic right to elect a leader of their choice was being undermined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protestors blocked access roads leading to the IEBC offices, effectively preventing UDA candidate Vincent Chemitei from submitting his nomination documents. Chemitei was forced to travel to the area by air, but his arrival was met with hostility. Reports indicate that his aircraft was pelted with stones, and several vehicles were vandalized during the unrest. Meanwhile, another group of KANU supporters arrived at the IEBC offices seeking answers as to why their candidate had not submitted his paperwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources suggest that Gideon Moi\u2019s decision to exit the race followed a private meeting with President William Ruto at State House in Nairobi.
