Retail powerhouse,Carrefour Kenya has inked a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Food Banking Kenya (FBK) to combat food waste and bolster national food security.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership, announced this week, will see surplus, safe, and edible food redistributed to vulnerable communities across the country.Under the initiative,baked goods will be collected and distributed daily, while dry groceries including rice, cereals, and lentils will be delivered to verified charitable organizations within four days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move aligns with Majid Al Futtaim\u2019s broader mission to enrich lives, build inclusive communities, and drive sustainable impact through responsible retailing.\u201cThis partnership underscores our commitment to reducing waste and creating meaningful change,\u201d said Christophe Orcet, Regional Director for East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy transforming surplus into support, we\u2019re strengthening Kenya\u2019s food security and proving that private-sector collaboration can deliver lasting impact.\u201dFBK will oversee the collection, sorting, and redistribution of surplus food, ensuring it meets strict safety standards before reaching accredited charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaboration is expected to redistribute over 20 tonnes of food annually, benefiting thousands of families facing food insecurity.\u201cPartnering with Carrefour expands our reach and reinforces the power of surplus to nourish communities,\u201d added John Gathungu, Executive Director of Food Banking Kenya.This initiative not only tackles food waste but also sets a precedent for sustainable, socially conscious retail practices in Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
