\ud83d\udd34COTU-Kenya Urges Crackdown on Abusive Foreign Employers After Viral Assault Video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions, Kenya (COTU-K), has called for the immediate deportation of a Chinese national filmed assaulting a Kenyan worker in Eldoret, describing the incident as a gross violation of workers\u2019 rights and dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, November 16, the union condemned the attack, which was captured in a widely circulated video showing the foreign employer striking a Kenyan employee with an iron sheet. The worker, despite repeated provocation, refrained from retaliating, even as onlookers urged him to defend himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCOTU is deeply concerned by the prevalent cases of abuse of Kenyan workers by foreign investors,\u201d the union stated. \u201cWe will not stand and watch the dignity of Kenyan workers violated by rogue Chinese employers operating within our borders.\u201dAlthough the two individuals involved have reportedly reconciled, the video has sparked public outrage, with many Kenyans questioning the sincerity of the resolution and calling for justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COTU also highlighted a separate incident involving another Chinese manager accused of forcing Kenyan employees to sing Chinese songs during work hours. The union publicly identified the individual, citing his passport and tax identification details, and accused him of enforcing exploitative labor conditions, including excessive hours and inadequate pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, COTU is urging the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, to intensify oversight of foreign-run enterprises in Kenya.\u201cWe urge the Ministry to strengthen monitoring, compliance, and enforcement measures relating to enterprises run by foreign nationals,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
