Wiper Party leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans by the United Opposition to initiate private prosecution proceedings against top officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), citing alleged electoral malpractice in recent by-elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during a memorial service in Ithanga, Murang\u2019a County, Kalonzo accused IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon and CEO Hussein Marjan of presiding over what he termed as fraudulent electoral processes in Mbeere and Malava constituencies. He claimed the commission, in collusion with state operatives, manipulated the outcomes of the polls to favor government-backed candidates.\u201cHow would the chairperson clear someone whose name is not even known?\u201d Kalonzo posed. \u201cThey do not know to this day the name of the man who won in Mbeere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was announced and declared the winner without proper identification. That is fraud.\u201dKalonzo specifically questioned the eligibility of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leo Wamuthende, who was declared the winner in Mbeere. He alleged that Wamuthende had previously disowned his own identity,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

yet was cleared by the IEBC and subsequently declared victorious.The opposition leader argued that the current IEBC leadership is heavily influenced by President William Ruto\u2019s administration, making it incapable of conducting impartial elections. He said the United Opposition would pursue private prosecution as a means to restore electoral integrity and deter future violations.\u201cWe know Ruto cannot prosecute Ethekon and Marjan.That\u2019s why we are taking this route,\u201d Kalonzo said. \u201cThis will put a permanent seal on the culture of impunity that has taken root.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further assured Kenyans that the opposition would not allow any interference in the 2027 general elections, vowing to hold electoral officials accountable through legal channels.Kalonzo also dismissed claims that the United Opposition is fragmented or ethnically driven, attributing such narratives to state propaganda aimed at weakening the coalition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a related development, opposition figure Rigathi Gachagua, who also attended the event, alleged that the government had deployed surveillance teams to monitor his activities. He claimed the move was part of a broader strategy to spread misinformation and sow discord within the Mt. Kenya political bloc.The IEBC has yet to respond to the allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
