The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has raised concern over what it describes as modern-day slavery in Kenya\u2019s private health sector.The union accuses some private hospitals of exploiting foreign doctors to suppress wages, a practice it says disadvantages local medical practitioners and violates existing labour laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KMPDU says the affected doctors are subjected to poor working conditions, underpayment, and limited job security, warning that the trend could undermine professionalism and compromise the quality of healthcare services.Speaking on the matter, KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atela said the union has received numerous complaints from doctors working in private facilities and is calling on the government and relevant regulatory bodies to intervene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Secretary General Dr. Dennis Miskellah echoed the concerns, urging authorities to enforce labour laws and protect the rights and welfare of both local and foreign medical practitioners.The union is now demanding strict oversight of private hospitals and immediate action to curb what it terms exploitative labour practices in the health sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
