The Senate has raised concerns over revelations that former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati spent about KSh 3.68 million on a Christmas tree project in 2019.Findings by the Senate\u2019s Public Accounts Committee show the expenditure was made in September of that year, sparking sharp criticism from lawmakers who questioned the use of public resources on what they described as a questionable project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disclosure comes just months after Wangamati was interrogated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over separate allegations of corruption and abuse of office. He was later released on a cash bail of one million shillings. Senators have demanded accountability and justification for the spending, with records indicating that the matter will be referred to the EACC for further investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
