The government has reassured Kenyans that the country has sufficient petroleum stocks to cushion it against potential supply disruptions amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.<\/mark><\/kbd><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 3, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi said current reserves are adequate to meet both domestic consumption and regional commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn light of the escalating tensions in the Middle East region where our petroleum products supply is sourced, the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has reviewed the supply and stock situation and wishes to advise that the country has sufficient stocks to cover both the country and the region,\u201d said Wandayi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that fuel imports have already been scheduled for delivery through the end of April 2026, noting that for now, supply remains stable and secure.\u201cWe are closely monitoring the fluid situation as it evolves whilst engaging with our government-to-government suppliers for contingency planning,\u201d the CS stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rising Global Tensions<\/sup><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Wandayi\u2019s remarks come against the backdrop of rising global oil prices following the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz and reported attacks on several vessels. Major shipping companies have since suspended operations along the crucial maritime route, heightening concerns over global fuel supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kenya, like many oil-importing nations, relies heavily on refined petroleum imports, making it vulnerable to international market shocks. Analysts warn that if the blockade persists, countries dependent on imports could face sustained pressure, regardless of existing reserves.Some experts suggest that prolonged tensions could keep crude oil prices elevated, particularly if geopolitical rivalries intensify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government Remains Vigilant<\/sup><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Despite the uncertainty, Wandayi maintained that proactive measures ,including forward contracting and strategic planning, have strengthened Kenya\u2019s preparedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
