Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa<\/strong> has urged security agencies to take firm and decisive action against the growing culture of political hooliganism, warning that rising cases of disruption, violence, and intolerance at public gatherings pose a serious threat to Kenya\u2019s democratic values and national unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing congregants at Christ Is The Answer Ministries (CITAM)<\/strong> in Kakamega County, Governor Barasa described the trend as dangerous and deeply concerning, noting that behaviors once considered unacceptable, such as heckling, chaos, and physical confrontations, are increasingly being tolerated and, in some cases, encouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf unchecked, this normalization of political violence could easily destabilize the country, especially as political temperatures rise ahead of future elections,\u201d<\/em> he cautioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barasa called on security agencies to act proactively, enforce the rule of law without fear or favor, and hold accountable those inciting or engaging in violence. He also appealed to political leaders across the divide to exercise restraint, uphold decorum, and promote peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor raised concern over the growing trend of politicizing funerals, warning that turning solemn occasions into political battlegrounds disrespects bereaved families and risks igniting unnecessary tensions among mourners. He stressed that funerals must remain dignified spaces for grief and unity, free from political provocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Barasa criticized premature political campaigning, arguing that some leaders have shifted focus away from service delivery in favor of early positioning. He challenged elected leaders to prioritize meaningful development projects that directly improve livelihoods, including investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job creation.\u201cLeadership should be measured by tangible impact on the lives of wananchi, not endless rhetoric or constant campaigning,\u201d<\/em> he emphasized.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
