Thousands of learners have not yet reported to form one and are at the risk of dropping out of schools, threatening the success of the 100% transition policy. Learners started reporting to schools on Monday 15th for admission in form one,on the first day,the turnout was huge but this dwindled as the days went by and thousands of learners are still at home.
Statistics shows that over 100,000 students are yet to join form one as questions emerged over how those huge numbers of learners missed school fees where various bursaries and scholarships are cutting across elected Leaders and private Institutions.
Unlike in previous years, there is slowed activity across the Country to look for learners who are yet to report,to ensure that all of them transit to secondary schools in line with the Government policy on 100% transition at all exit points in the Education System.
Therefore, those students selected to join form 1 were 1.3 Million but those admitted by now are 1.2 Million as over five thousand students joined Vocational Training Institutions, since some students are yet to join Form 1 in various counties leading by Bungoma County with over 10,000 students,Kilifi County records the lowest rate with over 5,000 students as this is after they missed out on bursaries which was to sustain their learning education in various secondary schools.
