It comes at a time when farmers from various regions of the country are experiencing prolonged wait times at multiple depots in their quest for government-subsidized fertilizer, amidst reported scarcities of the product in the area.
farmers in Malava, Kakamega County, are seeking accountability from the county government regarding what they term fraudulent practices and exploitation in the county’s fertilizer distribution scheme. According to the farmers, the fertilizer they purchased was adulterated with stones.
Several members of the Kakamega County Assembly have leveled accusations against the county’s administration alleging exploitation of the farmer’s predicaments. In addition, they have emphasized the necessity of taking decisive action against the individuals implicated in the fraudulent enterprise.
However, the county government has mounted a staunch defense of the product attributing the controversy to the regional political dynamics. The DCI detectives have procured samples from the confiscated bags for a comprehensive analysis aimed at ascertaining the precise composition of the purported counterfeit fertilizer.
