Every year, lives of approximately 1.19 million people are cut short as a result of a road traffic crash where more than half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

After a peaceful protest held by residents over poor road joining Webuye East and Tongaren, residents have been complaining over poor road infrastructure where they decided to dig up trenches and planting bananas on the Wabukhonyi road, saying politicians have been using them for political advantage without repairing it since has been a disadvantage for the residents in putting up their businesses.
Therefore, residents say, they are passing through difficult situations to run their daily activities as well as explaining the benefits of roads, where they are pleading with their leaders to help them in construction of the road in order for them to run their activities smoothly.
However, residents said they don`t understand the leadership in that area because the Ward Representative says it is the role of the MP while MP claims that it is the aim of the MCA to take action in construction of the road which is bringing confusion amongst themselves.
The safe system approach to road safety aims to ensure a safe transport system for all road users which must be addressed in order to eliminate fatal crashes and reduce serious injuries.
