The heartbreaking story of a 30-year-old pregnant woman in Kakamega has left a community in mourning. The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, experienced complications during labor that required her to be transferred to a better-equipped hospital.
However, her family faced a financial barrier that prevented them from being able to afford the cost of the transfer. Despite desperate attempts to seek help, the woman tragically passed away before she could receive the necessary medical care. Her husband, Abel Nyongesa, shared the devastating details of his wife’s final moments, expressing his deep sorrow and regret over not being able to save her.
The loss of both his wife and unborn child has left him and their family shattered, grappling with the pain of their untimely deaths. The lack of access to ambulance services in the region has been a point of contention, with many believing that timely transportation could have potentially saved the lives of the mother and her baby.
Kakamega county governor Fernandes Barasa acknowledged the previous issues with ambulance services, citing outstanding debts as the reason for their withdrawal. However, he assured the community that these services have now been restored after the debts were settled, offering a glimmer of hope in the midst of profound grief and loss.
