The County Program, initiated by Absa Bank Kenya and the Africa Guarantee Fund, is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women entrepreneurs in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Vihiga counties.
With the objective of assisting at least 30,000 women-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, this program seeks to bridge the gender gap in business ownership and provide women with the necessary tools and support to thrive in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
Some of the directors from Absa bank and the Africa Guarantee Fund explained the purpose of the program, aiming to enable women entrepreneurs to travel not only within the country but also internationally. Their goal is to expand the program to all counties in Kenya in order to empower women, address gender disparities, and tackle economic obstacles.
One of the primary goals of the County Program is to address the gender disparities that exist in the business landscape. Women entrepreneurs have made significant contributions to the economy however, they often face numerous challenges, including limited access to finance, lack of business skills and knowledge, and societal biases.
Through specifically targeting women-led enterprises, this program aims to level the playing field and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for female entrepreneurs.
Through the County Program, Absa Bank Kenya and the Africa Guarantee Fund will provide a range of resources and support to women entrepreneurs. This includes access to affordable financing options, such as loans and credit facilities, tailored to meet the unique needs of women-led businesses.
Additionally, the program will offer training and capacity-building initiatives to enhance the business skills and knowledge of women entrepreneurs, enabling them to make informed decisions and effectively manage their enterprises.
Furthermore, the County Program will foster networking and mentorship opportunities for women entrepreneurs, connecting them with experienced business leaders and industry experts who can provide guidance and support. This mentorship component is crucial in empowering women entrepreneurs, as it not only offers practical advice but also helps build confidence and resilience in the face of challenges.
By empowering women entrepreneurs, the County Program aims to unlock the full potential of women-led businesses and contribute to economic growth and development in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Vihiga counties. It recognizes that when women are given equal opportunities and support, they can drive innovation, create jobs, and contribute to sustainable development.
The partnership between Absa Bank Kenya and the Africa Guarantee Fund to launch the County Program is a significant step towards addressing gender disparities and empowering women entrepreneurs in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Vihiga counties.
By providing essential resources, support, and mentorship, this program aims to create a more inclusive and supportive business environment, enabling women-led enterprises to thrive and contribute to the economic prosperity of their communities.
