Transport activities along Magadi road were disrupted for most part of the day as Multimedia University students clashed with police.
The students are protesting over unsanitary conditions at the institution and high school fees. Kabete technical training institute has been closed indefinitely after students went on rampage over fee hike.
These were the scenes along Magadi road towards ongata- Rongai, as Multimedia university students demonstrated on Tuesday. Students barricated the busy Magadi road, disrupting traffic and forcing motorists to find alternative routes.
This confrontation with police officers led to the arrest of several students. Amid the chaos, a dometry caught fire though the flames were quickly estinguished, for students were arrested. The furious students directed their anger to the school administration, claiming they had gone days without clean water, a situation they Described as significant inconvenient and a health risk.
They further criticized the institution for its unstable internet connection, which they said seriously hampered their learning, despite issueing a strike notice the previous tuesday, the students claimed their concerns were ignored by the administration.The university in a statement apologized for the inconvenience caused by temporary water supply disruption, the statement explained that the issue arose from a damaged water main pipe, which had since been repaired.
Meanwhile, along Waiyaki way, traffic also was temporarily disrupted,as students from Kabete national polytechnic protested, over cleanliness and increased school fee. The institution was closed indefinitely, and all students were required to Vacate immediately.
