It was during the official opening of Magical Kenya Travels Expo 2024, at the uhuru Garden Nairobi, president William Ruto for the first time talked about the controversial Adani deal, surrounding the Jomo Kenyatta International airport JKIA.
According to Ruto, renovation of JKIA will position Kenya at the top ranking for tourists destination, and thus improve it’s capacity.
The Indian based Adani group secured a 30 years contract deal, with a short term deal which includes construction of a new terminal and a taxi way system, expected to be completed in 2029.
Adani deal has raised concerns among Kenyans who went on strike to oppose the Indian based company, from taking over the Jomo Kenyatta International airport, president William Ruto assured all the airports workers, that their jobs are secured under the adani group.
During his appearance to the senate committee, treasury cabinet secretary John Mbadi clashed with senators about the adani deal, questioning the opaqueness surrounding the contract details.
