The principal secretary for economic planning Dr. Bonface Makokha Barasa has announced that the government housing project under broad based government has received significant growth development in 2025 with a large rise of 76.6%. In 2024, The housing programme witnessed challenges that resulted to a lower rate progress as compared to this year.
The programme achieved 16% of the 250,000 housing units in the financial year 2023/2024 with only 40,000Speaking during media briefing in Bungoma Dr. Barasa said the progress shows full commitment of the government in enhancing affordable house to Kenyans which in return will improve access to descent housing of low-and middle income Kenyans,”As the government, under President Ruto and Raila Odinga leadership, We are proud to report that 76.6% of the Affordable Housing Programme has been implemented successfully.
Thousands of kenyans are now ready to own houses in various counties. This is a milestone plan that should be praised.”The PS also noted that the initiative have boosted job creation with many youths being employed thus reducing unemployment which is a crisis to many Kenyans. He has also urged youths to utilise the available opportunities to transform the country economically.
The public reception of the affordable housing programme has been largely positive as compared to the first time when it was introduced. This shows that Kenyans are ready to transform their shelter as a basic need to another level with help of Kenya kwanza government. Several projects in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kisumu, Machakos and Nakuru are already complete or nearly completion with other towns in progress.
Kenyans have been urged to apply online as the government projects are now shifting to digital. He also added that the houses Will only be available to those who apply early saying there will be no any form of corruption when issuing keys to the new house owners, stating that those who apply first are prioritized in the allocation of completed units.
