The Ministry of Education, through the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), has officially released the list of approved curriculum support materials for Grade 10, marking a significant milestone in the rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) at the senior school level.
The comprehensive list, published on Tuesday, December 23, outlines textbooks and learning resources that will be used across the three CBC career pathways: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); Social Sciences; and Arts and Sports Science.Under the CBC framework, Grade 10 learners will study seven subjects,four core and three elective. The core subjects include English, Kiswahili, Core Mathematics, and Community Service Learning (CSL). The remaining three subjects will be selected by students based on their interests, abilities, and career aspirations, with guidance from teachers.

Arts and Sports Science Pathway
Students pursuing Music and Dance will use titles such as Hummingbird Music and Dance, Mentor Music and Dance,KLB Excellent Music and Dance,Moran Music and Dance, and Distinction Music and Dance For Theatre and Film.
Approved texts include Doritex Film and Theatre and Distinction Theatre and Film.Fine Arts learners will use Front Row Fine Arts and Mentor Fine Arts, while Sports Science students will rely on Mountain Sports Science, Top Sports and Recreation, and Booklyst Master Sports and Recreation.
Social Sciences Pathway.
English learners will use a range of texts including English Moran, KLB Excellent English, Storymoja English, Hummingbird English,Oxford English, and Highland English.
Kiswahili resources include Moran Kiswahili Cha Mwanafunzi,Oxford Kiswahili Fasaha, Mentor Kiswahili Kitabu cha Mwanafunzi,Longhorn Chemchemi za Kiswahili,One Planet Mbiu ya Kiswahili, and Hummingbird Kiswahili Kitabu cha Mwanafunzi.
For History, students will use Oxford Evolving World History,Magical History, and The Citizenship Learner’s Book.Geography learners will study using Oxford Active Geography,Longhorn Comprehensive Geography, and KLB Excelling Geography.Business Studies texts include Mentor Business Studies,Oxford Active Business Studies, Spotlight Business Studies, and Master Business Studies.
STEM Pathway
Computer Studies learners will use Modern Technology Computer Studies and Oxford Active Computer Studies.Mathematics resources include Mentor Mathematics,Spotlight Core Mathematics, Longhorn Advancing in Core Mathematics,KLB Excellent Core Mathematics,Mentor General Mathematics,and Spotlight Essential Mathematics.Biology students will study using Spotlight Biology, Triumph Biology,Oxford Biology Today,Magic Biology,Master Biology, and Mentor Biology.
For Building and Construction, approved texts include Master Building and ConstructionDistinction Building and Construction,and Excellent Building and Construction.
Teachers’ Role and Learning Outcomes.
Teachers are mandated to select instructional materials strictly from the approved list, ensuring alignment with CBC’s learner-centered teaching, assessment, and evaluation methods. Both learner’s books and teacher’s guides must be used to support effective delivery.
According to the Ministry, by the end of senior school, learners should demonstrate effective communication, ICT proficiency, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. They are also expected to apply scientific and research skills to real-world challenges and harness their talents for personal growth, career development, and lifelong learning.
