On Saturday evening, a devastating fire broke out at St. Joseph Seminary in Baraka, Molo, Nakuru County, destroying two dormitories. The incident, which occurred around 8:00 p.m., left many students displaced and without their essential belongings.
According to local police, the flames spread quickly through the dormitory buildings, consuming beds, mattresses, books, school uniforms, and personal items belonging to the students. Fortunately, swift actions from school authorities and emergency responders prevented the fire from spreading further within the institution.
A police officer reported, “The fire started at approximately 8:00 p.m. and affected two dormitories within the school compound. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.” This fortunate outcome can be attributed to the timely gathering of all students in the school hall during the incident, which helped avert a tragedy.
A school administrator expressed relief, stating, “We are grateful that all students were safely assembled in the hall when the fire broke out. While property was lost, no students were injured.” This reassuring news is a small consolation for the dozens of students who now find themselves without vital belongings such as bedding, learning materials, and uniforms.
In light of the incident, a parent representative shared their concerns: “This is a difficult moment for the affected students and their families. We hope support will be provided to help replace the items lost in the fire.”
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. An investigating officer noted, “Our officers have commenced investigations to identify the source and cause of the fire. We will provide further information once the inquiry is complete.”

As investigations continue, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. School management has reassured parents that they are implementing measures to support the affected students and ensure that their education continues without interruption.
As the community comes together in the aftermath of this unfortunate event, it’s a stark reminder of the importance of safety and support for those in need. Let’s hope that the affected students receive the assistance they require to recover from this harrowing experience.
