The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) joins Kenya and the rest of the world in honouring our rural women celebrated annually on 15th October.
The celebrations were established in 2007 by the UN General Assembly in appreciation of the women , improving food security and they were held in Laikipia county with a gather of large numbers of women from the rural.
Literacy skills and agro-business training have been highlighted as key factors in the uplifting of women living in rural areas,as the world celebrates the international rural women’s Day.Women who celebrated this day in Laikipia county say coming together under women-led groups, has helped them rise to positions of leadership that, otherwise have been a dream for them.
Leaders present during the celebrations called on the government to support already ongoing efforts by rural women to unvail themselves from poverty saying rural women have already come up with projects that need push.
Despite the important role played by women in agricultural production and food security numerous studies show that women are faced with several challenges.
