With the ongoing expansion of stadiums all over the nation, Masinde Muliro Stadium has not been left behind. It is being expanded to match international standards per FIFA recommendations.
This renovation will not only benefit the economy of the county but will also enable a training ground for different sportsmen and women to nurture their talent each day. The expansion of the stadium will have the following sporting centers: a basketball court, football, volleyball, rugby, hockey, and netball pitches, a swimming pool and a hall for indoor games, and a gymnasium.
The stadium is targeted to carry about 20000 people becoming the 2nd largest stadium in western Kenya after Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. The stadium will serve as a home stadium to Nzoia Sugar FC and Bungoma Super Stars who play in the Football Kenya Federation(FKF).
It will be given the chance to host national and county government functions apart from sporting events. And it has been given the chance to host Madaraka Day this year.
The facility will also open room for investment in the sporting industry and the hospitality sector guaranteeing the County revenue of up to Sh10 million annually from the current what it generated before the facelift of around Sh100,000 annually
